Newsletter: May 2016

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) was held in Phoenix Arizona May 7-13, 2016. The two YES Fair Grand Prize winners (Noah Bell and Shawnee Wright) competed along with 1,700 high school students from more than 75 countries, regions, and territories.

YES Fair winners along with Arizona ISEF participants were invited to a meet & greet with Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. The Governor spoke to the students and individually congratulated each of them on their accomplishments. During a Q & A session students asked about STEM, college/university tuition costs, and State science opportunities.

This year both YES Fair Grand Prize winners excelled at the ISEF Special Awards Ceremony. Noah Bell (Veritas Christian Community School) won a 4 year scholarship to Arizona State University; this is his second consecutive year attending ISEF. Shawnee Wright (Veritas Christian Community School) won a 4 year scholarship to the University of Arizona.

The Theme for this year’s Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) was “Think Beyond”!

  1. Beyond Barriers: Look beyond our differences and find what brings us together. Take all opportunities to build relationships and foster community that will enrich your perspective.
  2. Beyond Yourself: Take advantage of parents, mentors, and educators to listen and learn beyond your current focus areas. Remember, innovation doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
  3. Beyond Doubt: Through hard work and collaboration you can change the world in ways that are impossible to imagine today. Think deeply about what impact your work can have on the planet, or just a single person. Believe in yourself.

In 2016 ISEF awarded over $4 million Dollars in awards and prizes:
