Applications are now being accepted for the second annual Northrop Grumman Foundation Teachers Academy. The program – designed specifically for middle school teachers – was established to help enhance teacher confidence and classroom excellence in science, engineering, and technology, while increasing teacher understanding about the skills needed for a scientifically literate workforce.
The selected “Teacher Fellows” will participate in a host of STEM-related activities and professional learning opportunities, including:
- Membership with full benefits in NSTA
- Opportunity to participate in a variety of web-based professional learning activities, including web seminars
- Attendance at the 2017 National Conference on Science Education in Los Angeles, California (March 28–April 1, 2017), including paid expenses for air travel, lodging, meals, and registration
- Participation in a summer five-day workshop at a Northrop Grumman facility that engages teacher-to-teacher discourse on pedagogical strategies for effective integration of authentic engineering design practices in their classroom (July 16–21, 2017)
- Participation in an 80-hour immersive externship at a local Northrop Grumman facility where they will be partnered with an engineer/technologist to observe and experience critical STEM content and skills in action (July 24–August 4, 2017)
- Developing classroom applications that integrate an authentic and “real-world” application linked to the externship experiences
- Developing tools/resources to share their learning with colleagues to build capacity within their schools and districts
