Dear Teachers/Advisors,
Over the past several years, there have been a few awards/certificates at the YES Fair that have not been presented. This year, there are a couple of organizations that would like to inform students of the possible awards they can receive. Below you will find the organizations that would like to present awards this year.Net Zero Water Challenge
The University of Arizona Cochise County Cooperative Extension Water Wise program is challenging YES Fair high school participants to develop a project to illustrate how to achieve “Net Zero Water.” “Net Zero” means that the demand for the resource equals the supply, without diminishing the supply within a certain area within a set amount of time. The Water Wise YES Fair Net Zero Water challenge is for an individual or team to design a Net Zero Water housing development (or larger populated area within a watershed) that does not reduce the regional water supply, does not negatively impact the environment (due to water loss or water quality) and perhaps may even add water to the supply. The winner will receive an award certificate from the University of Arizona Water Wise program.
Astronomical Organizations
On behalf of several astronomical organizations, prizes and cash awards will be given to award-winning projects. These organizations are looking for projects in astronomy or space related science. In 2012, Buena student, Gary Ryu, presented an impressive solar activity project that won two cash awards, as well as certificates from local and international astronomical organizations. There were other projects related to astronomy in 2012, but none since then. We would like to encourage students to consider entering projects related to these topics each year.
If there are students with interest in doing a project in any of these areas, please let us know after the project has been registered.
Thank you!
Marcus Harston
